Are you ready?

Are you ready for the launch of the wildly popular Japanese makeup brand CANDYDOLL?

If you follow beauty and fashion, especially those hailing from Japan, then surely you would have heard of CandyDoll…? or at least you would have heard of the person behind the brand. Or, at least you would recognize the face.

Yup, we’re talking about Tsubasa Masuwaka.

WHO IS TSUBASA MASUWAKA?

Can’t really talk about Tsubasa Masuwaka without mentioning the fact that she’s practically the Japanese Gyaru icon.

Gyaru is a fashion style or can also be used to describe a certain category of girls or young women in Japan. What category?

Basically, Gyaru is derived from the English word, Girl. Guess it ain’t hard to tell then this fashion style is all about… girls and being a girl. Trouble is there are different (and many!) types of gyaru and they all have their own distinctive styles and fashion. You can read more about the different styles HERE.

Tsubasa Masuwaka represents more of the Hime-Gyaru style. Did you know Hime means princess in Japanese? So yup, she’s more of the super-girly and glamourous princessy look. Think pink, sweet, lace, and think dyed hair, usually curly, coloured Circle lens with fake eyelashes and pouty luscious lips (they seem to favour the nude lip colour, by the way).

Still on Tsubasa Masuwaka, other than being recognized as the face of (Hime)-Gyaru, she is also known as a Popteen model.

What is Popteen (ポップティーン Poppu Tin)?

It’s is a monthly teenage fashion magazine published by the Kadokawa Haruki Corporation in Japan. Arguably one of Asia’s top fashion magazines, it’s notable for its coverage of Gyaru fashion. Tsubasa Masuwaka is one Popteen‘s most popular and recognized models (however, she announced on her blog when she got married in 2008 that she had graduated from Popteen and that the February 2008 issue would be her last cover.)

Other than selling magazines, Tsubasa Masuwaka has also fronted hair colour brands, Circle lens and of course, makeup. For makeup, she’s particularly successful and convincing when promoting items such as fake eyelashes, mascara and lip glosses. Why so? Did you even have to ask? Just look at her, hehe!

TSUBASA MASUWAK & CANDYDOLL

So yea, CANDYDOLL is a makeup line produced by Tsubasa Masuwaka. Yup, yup, it’s her own personal line.

In 2008, she made a tentative step into the makeup market with only two items: a lip concealer and gloss.

Since then, the gloss has become a staple in many Japanese girls’ makeup bags and of late, it has also been a highly sought-after item by girls from all over the world, especially those who follow and love the Japanese makeup trends. The success of this product is, in part, due to her fame, of course. But we also have to acknowledge that it’s a fabulous product and it really does a fantabulous job to help create that extremely sexy and oh-so-kissable nude lip look!

Anyway, the line has now evolved to a very successful (and rather full) makeup line and yea, it’s going places, YAY!

You can check out more on how to create her signature looks HERE.
