So now, since this month’s spotlight is on fragrances, we wanna share some top tips with you throughout this month, so stay tuned for more, alrighty?

For a start, we will share tips about how to wear fragrance in hot summer Malaysia, and also how to make your scent last longer on your skin! Here goes!

Just as you wouldn’t wear a woollen coat to a summer picnic, you should be mindful that there’re scents and perfume notes that are probably best left to the cooler nights out.

In the scorching hot heat, fresh and natural scents are the most welcome, as they are less overwhelming for those around you. While we all wanna smell nice to the people around me, it’s also basic manners not to overwhelm and overpower people with heady strong scents.

For hot days in our climate, we recommend citrus, fruity, oceanic, woody, and light floral notes. And yes, you can save the stronger scents for exciting and sexier nights, keke!

1. It’s good practice to apply perfume more delicately (read: don’t overdose!), but with increased frequency.

Yes, we’re saying you should be more light-handed when you apply perfume, and bring a vial, miniature or roller-ball versions of your favourite scent to reapply throughout the day.

You see, we tend to sweat in the heat, and while sweating helps our bodies to cool, but can cause our perfume to evaporate with the sweat. So yes, reapplication becomes necessary to freshen the scent.

2. Where you apply perfume is important too.

Coco Chanel even went so far as to advise that women apply perfume where they want to be kissed! Actually, this translates well into (mostly!) practical advice, since we should be applying on our pulse points.

Pulse points include our wrists, collarbones (cleavage area), behind our ears, inner elbows and even behind our knees.

Do not rub in the fragrance, but let it soak in. Our pulse points are where the blood vessels are closest to the skin, and these spots emanate heat, which can help the fragrance to emanate from our skin into the air.

One word of caution though, do avoid applying perfume at the sensitive armpits.

3. We know some experts advise against applying perfume on your clothes, but the main reason is to avoid staining them.

But truth be told, fabrics actually hold fragrance wonderfully!

So what we suggest is that you CAN apply perfume on your clothes if your favourite scent happens to be a completely colourless one. And for added precaution, spritz your favourite scent onto the lining or inner hem of your clothes to avoid the staining.

Avoid spraying fragrance on the outside of your clothes as it could stain.

4. This is an old trick, but very very useful one! Yes, spray perfume into your hair!

Freshly-washed hair is best. You see, freshly washed hair holds scent very well. The best part is that our hair can be such a great fragrance carrier; the perfume will be ‘released’ every time you flick your locks.

5. Another old trick is… Layering!

Layering is a great way of wearing fragrance, especially for summer. Remember, it doesn’t help to over-spray as it doesn’t make it last longer. Instead, it will just smell really strong at first (probably obnoxiously so!), before fading completely.

We recommend investing in the complementary bath and body products of your favourite perfume where the fragrance will just layer on your skin. As your body heats and cools throughout the day, each of these similarly-scented products will revitalise itself.

For best results, start with the body wash, followed by the body lotion and finish with a light spritz of the scent.

6. One good thing to know is that a scent will fade faster when skin is dry.

Therefore, the best time to apply perfume is right after you’ve showered, and after applying body lotion. If you’re layering body products of the same scent, then well and good.

But if you’re using body wash and body lotion of a different brand, then do be careful as you don’t mind your perfume to have to compete with your other lotions and potions. Use an unscented soap or body wash in the shower, and skip strongly-scented moisturizing products.

If budget is an issue and you don’t really want to buy an entire fragrance line, then applying fragrance-free moisturizer to your body is an excellent preparation for applying fragrance, and will help your perfume last longer!

Other trick is to use good old petroleum jelly!

Yup, just apply some petroleum jelly to your skin, and then apply your favourite scent on top of that. The perfume droplets will cling to the petroleum jelly and last longer.

And oh, have you checked out one of our most exciting launches of couple fragrance for this year? Yup, we’re talking about the TRUSSARDI DONNA AND TRUSSARDI UOMO!

Do check them out if you haven’t already done so! They’ve been included in the nominees for the Best Couple Fragrances!
