L’eau d’Issey… Timeless Classics

August 13, 2012

Did you know that L’Eau d’Issey, the first fragrance by designer Issey Miyake, was first launched two(!) decades ago?

Back in 1992, Issey Miyake took the world by surprise with L’Eau d’Issey. During those times, heady, oriental fragrances were all the rage. Everyone was hearing strong scents and everyone was competing with everyone with how overwhelming their scents were. L’Eau d’Issey bucked the trend with the sheer brilliance of its simplicity. The purity and clarity of his approach was a breath of fresh air.

Oh well, that’s true Issey Miyake style.

To be where one is not expected to be, that is the philosophy of Issey Miyake.

With that first L’Eau d’Issey fragrance, Issey Miyake had used water as a central component of his creation and broke with the trends of the time. L’Eau d’Issey became a leading classic in the world of perfumery. And it’s a classic two decades ago, a decade ago and even today.

What Issey Miyake offered in 1992 was nothing more than a new vision of femininity. An unassuming femininity, essential and pure, far from imposed standards.

Issey Miyake – a tireless, inventive researcher with a consistent way of timelessly moving forward, irrespective of trends – invites us to take a fresh look at L’Eau d’Issey by reinterpreting two major style codes of femininity: the rose and the colour pink.

A stylistic composition that, under the demanding, watchful eye of Issey Miyake, is delivered in the form of an inspired, original creation.

A dissident among so many other floral fragrances with deliberately gourmand, regressive notes, L’Eau d’Issey Floraleopens up with a breath of rose. A budding rose, in the magic of its blooming.

It is vivacious, limpid and luminous, featuring a simple signature.

Its simplicity is its elegance. Yet this apparent simplicity is actually based on a highly architectural, elaborate structure, like all Issey Miyake creations.

In search of the scent of pure emotion, Alberto Morillas reinterprets the quintessential symbol of femininity. He reinvents the original fragrance of the rose, a budding rose.

To reveal the flower in all of its truth and simplicity, he captures its essence even before it is fully revealed. Transparent and bared, the true nature of the rose is unveiled, the purest, most feminine and most modern that exists – a delicate rose bud.

A new floral alchemy is born from its encounter with yellow ginger lily, a note at once fresh and textured, chosen for its luminous orange blossom accents.

Play on contrasts.

The softness of this very floral heart is enhanced by the sparkling, crystalline notes of mandarin orange and unveiled by the depth of white woods.

The tremendous success of the first L’Eau d’Issey fragrance spurred Issey Miyake to launch the male counterpart in 1994, the L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme. It, too, was warmly received by the world over. Over the course of over 20 years, Issey Miyake has refined and released various variations of the scent.

Sport… Revisited by Issey Miyake

Today, L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme Sport, the newest addition to the product line, offers men a new experience: to feel the intensity and emotion of sport through the unique vision of the fragrance’s creator.

For Issey Miyake, to talk about sport is above all to evoke man’s relationship with nature: a pure, essential interaction with the elements that transcends competition.

A sportsman does not bend nature to his will — he overcomes it, becoming one with it. Like a surfer catching a wave and riding the water, a paraglider braving the void harnessed to a sheet of fabric, or a rock climber scaling the face of a mountain attached to a cord.

An exalting fusion with the elements: water, air or earth, to experience thrilling sensations.

Respiration: the source of inspiration

Intended by its creator Jacques Cavallier to embody “the deep breath of satisfaction that a mountain climber takes when he reaches the summit,” L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme Sport is a fragrance of Respiration.

THE vital breath that sparks and impels every movement, from the roughest gesture to the most polished sporting manoeuvre.

With bergamot and grapefruit, L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme Sport takes on the freshness of the open air and high altitudes.

The middle note emanates a spicy note of nutmeg, for a trail like a winning embrace.

Although Air is its element and Water its active principle, it is from the Earth that L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme Sport derives the smoky notes of vetiver roots and the woody essence of cedar to impart character and elegance.
